I found bookkeeping when I decided to follow the entrepreneurial spirit that’s always lived inside me
We all know how the traditional career narrative goes: find something you’re good at, get better and better, and rise to the top. But from one entrepreneur to another, we both know that’s not always how it plays out. And sometimes, that’s how you discover your real purpose.
Believe it or not, business and numbers have always been in my story. After being introduced to accounting in grade 10, I instantly saw my path. Soon enough, I was in and out of university with a degree in Finance and Accounting. I sprinted into the workforce with total drive, and over the years, I progressed from Accounting Clerk to General Accountant, then to Budget and Financial Analyst, where I dove deep into the details of our day-to-day transactions and guided internal departments with insight to make healthy business decisions.
All that experience was invaluable, but I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me. You can most likely completely relate: I wanted to grow something that’s completely my own, and be able to build a life of freedom and flexibility. So I started exploring my options.
At first, becoming a virtual assistant seemed like a way to do that. But as I dug deeper, people advised that true, sustainable success comes from figuring out and focusing on what you’re good at. That’s when it clicked: my strengths lie in accounting (duh!), and reliable bookkeeping is essential to every business out there.
Because, real talk: I have family and friends who are up all night stressing about their receipts and how to properly record them. And I’ve interned at a tax and accounting firm, where sub-par bookkeeping was our biggest frustration. At year-end, I’d have to review every line item, make corrections, and then send clients a massive bill for the work. It wasn’t efficient for accountants, and it sure as hell didn’t uplift business owners.
Now, with Uplift Bookkeeping, I get to close that gap by making sure tax season is as stress-free and seamless as possible for you and your tax preparer. Not only does that mean I get to do what I love, but best of all: I get to serve, root for, and uplift inspiring and courageous entrepreneurs like you every day.
